A new school session brings another opportunity to help children learn to read. This month, we celebrate Glorious Folorunsho, share encouraging progress from Kwali, Abuja, and highlight how FAC is preparing to reach more children.

Tutor Spotlight: Glorious Folorunsho

FAC Literacy Teacher | Kwali, Abuja

Glorious Folorunsho, FAC literacy teacher in Kwali, Abuja

Glorious sees teaching children to read as an investment in their future. In her community, many children struggle with reading and pronunciation—but she has witnessed what consistent support can accomplish.

One boy joined the program unable to read. According to Glorious, after about a month of instruction, he could read fluently at his level.

Another child arrived unable to recognize letters. Within two weeks, she reported that he could recognize letters and form two- to three-letter words himself.

It is like a dream come true seeing young children able to read. It is one of the steps to becoming what they want to be in the future.

These tutor-reported milestones remind us why patient, consistent literacy instruction matters.

Preparing Our Team for the New Session

FAC Tutor and Coordinator Training: Starting and Managing a New Literacy Class

FAC recently held its New Session Tutor & Coordinator Training, led by Dr. Rufus Akinrinlola.

The training covered student enrollment, baseline reading assessments, placement according to reading ability, daily attendance, lesson preparation, progress tracking, midpoint and final assessments, and reporting. It also emphasized parental consent and responsible documentation.

Each participating team member received ₦5,000 in data support for the online training.

Our goal is to record where every child begins, how their skills develop, and what additional support they need.

Our 2027 Goal: Five More Schools

FAC currently provides literacy support through one school-based program and one church-based center. In 2027, we aim to expand to five additional schools, potentially reaching approximately 75 more children.

We work through existing schools, engage literacy tutors, and provide structured instruction and essential learning materials.

Our preliminary estimate is $500 to support the basic operation of one school-based literacy program for approximately five months, including tutor support and essential learning materials.

Help Write the Next “I Can Read” Story

Glorious’s message to supporters is simple:

Your support will be a great help and will enable FAC to support more students.

Consider sponsoring a school-based literacy program or contributing toward one. Gifts of any size help provide tutors, books, and learning materials.

Thank you to our donors, tutors, coordinators, volunteers, and school partners for helping children build a brighter future.

Together, we can help more children move from “I cannot read” to “I can read.”

Giving a Child a Brighter Future Through Literacy and Care.
