Mid-Year Review: Children Are Reading, Growing & Gaining Confidence

2 min read

As we move through the second half of 2026, Feed an African Child (FAC) is celebrating encouraging progress across our literacy centers while identifying practical needs to help us reach more children.

Progress Across Our Centers

At our Idanre, Ondo State center, 15 children are participating in literacy lessons, with improvements in letter recognition and reading. At our Kwali, FCT center, 8 children attend regularly and receive instruction at two learning levels.

But the numbers tell only part of the story. The testimonies tell the impact.

Their Testimonies Tell the Story

Emmanuel Peter, 12, joined the program struggling to read. Today, he can read. This reminds us that it is never too late for a child to learn.

Likewise, Mrs. Jessica Godwin shared the transformation in her 8-year-old son, Godwin Emmanuel:

“Before, my son could not read. But now, he can read. I am so, so happy.”

At Idanre, 10-year-old Abiodun Seun initially struggled to recognize letters. Today, he is reading. This is what can happen when a child receives consistent literacy support that has been missing.

Meeting Current and Future Practical Needs

Literacy remains our focus, but practical needs can affect a child's ability to learn. This year, FAC provided school uniforms for two children, including Abiodun.

We now need support in three key areas:

  1. Backpacks: To help children protect their books, notebooks, and learning materials.

  2. Lunch Support: Simple meals or snacks to help maintain children's interest and participation.

  3. More Tutors & School Centers: FAC currently serves children through one school and one church-based center. We are working toward expanding to five additional schools and need partners to support each location. We estimate that $500 can support the basic operation of one literacy center for five months, including tutor support and essential learning materials.

Help Write the Next Testimony

Our priority is to strengthen our current centers while preparing to reach more children.

Your support can provide literacy instruction, learning materials, backpacks, lunch support, and new literacy centers.

You can help write the next child's testimony.

Thank you to our donors, tutors, coordinators, volunteers, and partners who make this work possible.

Together, we are giving children the opportunity to read, learn, and build a brighter future.
